Adoptions
Adoption is a life-changing process that requires careful consideration, forethought, and legal understanding. Oklahoma adoption can occur in two ways: either both parents have consented to the adoption, or the facts fall within the statutes that allow for adoption without the consent of the parent(s).
Parental Rights in Adoptions
Adoption creates a parent-child relationship in which the adopted parent has exactly the same rights and responsibilities as a natural parent. Both the U.S. Supreme Court and the Oklahoma Supreme Court acknowledge that an adopted child must be treated no differently than a child born into a marriage. Thus, the decision to adopt must be approached with the gravity and significance that it deserves.
